March 12th, 2008, by the invitation of Federal Post Bureau of Myanmar，Qian Tingsuo, the deputy director of department of overall planning, Ministry of Information Industry of China，accompanied with 16 officers attended the Opening Ceremony Of China-Myanmar Optical Cable Information Highway, Mekong River, held in Muse city bounded on Ruili town, Dehong city, Yunnan province, China. U Tin Htwe, the general director of ministry of communications, posts and telegraphs union of Myanmar and U Tin Lwin, the general manager of Myanmar Telecom attended the ceremony.

 

    China Ruili-Myanmar Muse SDH 2.5 GB/s Optical Transmission System was prepared and designed in 2004. It was constructed from January 2005 to April 2005; and put into use on April 5, 2005. This communication system adopts double routes transmission optical cable. The first route leaves the country through Rui Li Jie by piping; and the core capacity is 12 cores with length of 11.8KM. The second route leaves the country through Tunhong ferry of Ruili Town by aerial way; and the core capacity is 12 cores with length of 9.07KM and total length 20.87KM. China-Myanmar Optical Cable is the main part of the Information Highway in Mekong hypo-area, and it is also the staggered achievement of Mekong hypo-area’s Information Highway. It is a successful cooperation between two countries in infrastructure construction filed.

 

    The opening ceremony was held at 10 A.M in front of equipment room of Muse launch, Myanmar Telecom. Firstly, the host introduced attending officers from dual sides and main situation of the Optical Cable Information Highway. Next, Qian Tingsuo, the deputy director of Department of overall planning and U Tin Lwin, the general manager of Myanmar Telecom cut the ribbon together for this ceremony.

 

    During U Tin Htwe, the chief of Federal Post Bureau of Myanmar and U Tin Lwin, the general director of ministry of communications, posts and telegraphs union of Myanmar made speeches in the opening ceremony, they both presented warm welcome for Chinese preventatives’ attending and spoke highly of friendship and close corporation between Myanmar and China. Qian Tingsuo, the vice chief of Department of Program made a positive reply that looked forward to a further cooperative relationship between two countries then.

 

    The preventative from China Telecom said, as the only telecom business running company appointed by the Chinese government, China Telecom made an active effort to join in and push the Information Highway construction of Mekong River hypo-area forward. Owe to the China-Myanmar Optical Cable project, the friendship between two countries became deeper, which built a firm base for further corporation in the future. It's believed that under the support and guidance of both governments, the corporation between China Telecom and Myanmar Telecom will promote the development of information industry and make a great contribution to the prosperity of economy of two countries. In the end, the officers of two countries planted trees stood for friendship after an arrangement to visit the equipment room of Muse Launch of Myanmar Telecom.
